This is the second edition of our bio-related links repository. Once again, we let you make your own opinion on the links and projects presented in here.

For this monthly report, we will go from the beautiful to the dirty, from the poetic to the disturbing. On our way wwe will pass through recent discoveries that may change our vision of the world.

The installation is incredibely simple, year ring data are read by a webcam and traslated into music.
Since it is rare to hear generative music that has enough musicality to be a pleasure to listen, we think it worth presenting this project.
Here is how it works:
“A tree’s year rings are analysed for their strength, thickness and rate of growth. This data serves as basis for a generative process that outputs piano music. It is mapped to a scale which is again defined by the overall appearance of the wood (ranging from dark to light and from strong texture to light texture). The foundation for the music is certainly found in the defined ruleset of programming and hardware setup, but the data acquired from every tree interprets this ruleset very differently.”

Looking for infos on algae, i’ve found the following documentary on the huge world of Algae. It’s old, sometimes boring but the pictures are just amazingly beautiful and the music is like taken from a psychedelic movie from the 70′s. The off voice is soft and clear and will be the lullaby of your best acid dreams.

Orthographic Processing in Baboon

This is the discovery of the week !

Abstract:

Skilled readers use information about which letters are where in a word (orthographic information) in order to access the sounds and meanings of printed words. We asked whether efficient processing of orthographic information could be achieved in the absence of prior language knowledge. To do so, we trained baboons to discriminate English words from nonsense combinations of letters that resembled real words. The results revealed that the baboons were using orthographic information in order to efficiently discriminate words from letter strings that were not words. Our results demonstrate that basic orthographic processing skills can be acquired in the absence of preexisting linguistic representations.

Whether you're a wannabe or a hardcore Doormats we'll have to pamper our little website with love. On the one hand that we can exchange information efficiently for our projects and also to act transparent.

• Stages 2: How to create a blog post. To create a post like this, left click on Post and then Add New. Here, you have a small text editor in which you can write what you want (information, reflection or report). You can also set the date of publication of voting article and especially what category it belongs (right of the editor), important enough to choose its class to have a well organized site.
• Stages 3: If no category matches, what to do ? It's cool, in our case. We want to create a category Tutorials in the section Blog Site. To the right of the editor, click + Add New Category and his name rentrrez (to better organize the site you can choose a parent category but in our case,it is useless). Si vous voulez rajouter cette catégorie à l’ensemble des blogs dans le menu, and in our case ! Tab Appearance go to the section Menus. Then go to the small box Categories choose the category you want to add and click ? on ? Add to Menu !! OF COURSE !! On the right you will see that your a small box representing your category is added ! You move by sliding pouvezla. Indentation then define its place in the menu. Click Save and reloader Menu page of Pagliacci and TADAM !!
• Stages 4: Add a slider in home page (Because…it's pretty). Click Theme Options then Slider Manager then Add New Slide to the Top add the url of the image or add the menu Media directly from your computer.
• Ittape 5: Projects, add to a project like this is to do a post on the blog except that the category is Projects. On the site, it would be nice to just make small presentations of projects with some links. For more detailed information, it's better to do it directly in the wiki. To write to the wiki, must request a login (still on the mailling list) and read it
